The making of a masterpiece
45,000 Hours
Building a new home for Lexus of Chatswood in Australia is no small feat, with an estimated 45,000 man hours invested in creating this Japanese-inspired masterpiece. That includes the trades you might expect, of course, like tilers and electricians, as well as a host of specialist workers creating the bespoke metal work and wood work - all of which occurred on site - that will elevate the Lexus of Chatswood Showroom to a dealership experience like no other.
12,500m of Cabling
The Lexus of Chatswood Showroom is the modern incarnation of old-world Japanese hospitality, and that means technology will be at its centre. And so while almost all of it is hidden from sight, there are more than 12kms of cabling connecting this building, including 7500m of data cables and 430m of LED strip lighting.
800 square-metres of American Oak
The driving design theme of the Lexus of Chatswood Showroom is the soft, warm American oak that adorns almost every surface and touchpoint, from the grand entry foyer to the stairs that link the buildings two levels. And for that, our building team sourced more than 800 square metres of the stunning American Oak timber.
488 square-metres of Glass
Natural light is hugely important in Japanese architecture, and the same design theory is used to stunning effect and showcase the vehicles in the Lexus of Chatswood Showroom, with soft, natural light washing across almost every surface - and vehicle - in the building. And how best to let the outside in? Through the liberal use of glass, which doesn’t just form the windows and doors, but also frames our Japanese gardens, as well as one of the most eye-catching locations in the new building - our 12-seat bar, where glass pairs with beautiful Smeraldo green stone and hand-shaped brass to create a one-of-a-kind dining space.
86kW of Solar Panelling
Lexus is a brand that is embracing the move forward into electrification, therefore when building the new home of Lexus, future investment has been implemented with a 86kW solar system installed to help power the building, and the on-site AC and future DC fast chargers for our customers electric vehicles.
42 tonnes of Sand and Cement
Beneath the fine finishes, hand-crafted wood and metals lies one of the true constants of any building, sand and cement. In the case of the Lexus of Chatswood Showroom, there is more than 42 tonnes of sand and cement, acting as an anchor that keep this flagship building in place for the decades to come.
500 People
With any building project it is more than just materials, it’s also the people behind it. Some 500 people every month have been involved in the construction of the Lexus of Chatswood Showroom. And we owe every inch of its beauty to their hardwork, passion and dedication! Thank you to our Builder Reitsma Constructions, our Site Foreman Sean, and the suppliers and contractors that have worked on this project to provide our Guests with our bespoke new home.
The Lexus of Chatswood Showroom is coming very soon, and we can’t wait for the opportunity to host you as our guest and experience this stunning space for yourself.
